Lifelong friends are family that we choose.
Doug Robey and his family have been close friends of ours for over twenty years. Once you’re friends with a Robey, you’re family.
In case you didn't know, tough guys have beards. Don't let this tough guy's grimace fool you. Doug is the type of guy that buys all the kids at the ball game a Ring Pop just to watch their mom's cringe as the sticky slobbers drip off their little elbows. He's the guy you call when you're stranded in the middle of nowhere and he drops everything to be there in a flash. Doug is they guy that will look past his own problems to help you with yours. He's loyal, funny, gives everyone a nickname, and is as stubborn as they come.
Doug is a family man. He works hard to provide for his family, and is Kacie's (his wife) best friend. They have two amazing kids, Zayne (14) and Bryleigh (12). These kiddos have their dad wrapped around their little finger. I'm telling you, don't be fooled by that big burly beard. Doug and Kacie are the hangout house for all of their kids' friends because they are so supportive of their children and their friends. To show you the kind of strength and support this guy has, he was released from the hospital at 4:00 p.m. yesterday afternoon, and was at his son's 8:00 p.m. baseball game last night. He let's nothing get between him and the love of his family.
In 2020, Doug began to fight the toughest battle of his life, cancer. He went through the strongest doses of chemo and radiation that can be administered, yet he continued to go to work to provide for his family and to show the world that men with beards have superhuman strength. He had surgeries where he was told he'd need six to eight weeks to recover, and Doug would tell the doctors he'd be back at work in three weeks tops. And that's just what he did. Between surgeries, chemo treatments, and radiation he was also diagnosed with COVID -19. Again, Doug pulled through stronger than ever. Doug's strength encouraged us, but the cancer didn't back down. This past weekend, Doug and his family were given the devastating news that Doug's cancer was now terminal.
Doug and his family are now home, enjoying their time together and making sweet memories. This love fund is being created to help the Robey family with medical bills, the bills that come with everyday life, and to give them the peace of mind that they can enjoy this precious time together without a dark cloud of finances weighing them down. Any amount donated is greatly appreciated, and thank you for your generosity.
**Many have asked me about Go Fund Me fees. They charge 2.9% to cover the cost of the fee credit/debit card companies charge them to run your card. This is NOT a profit for them. THEY DO take $.30 per transaction to cover the cost of running their website and advertising.
Also, there is a Doug Robey Love Fund account set up at Community First Bank in Butler if you’d rather donate there instead.
