On Saturday, October 19, 2024 Geraldine, Joel and Melone lost their beloved mother Gisele Sagbo. Gisele was a mother, sister and grandmother who leaves behind a legacy of unwavering love and sacrifice. We are reaching out to our community for support during this difficult time as her children and family try to stabilize their lives after this devastating loss.
The Sagbo's Family Journey
Their story begins in Lomé Togo, where Gisele and her husband Andre Sagbo dreamed of giving their children a better future. In 1999, Andre took the first brave step by immigrating to the United States. Three years later, in 2002, Giselle immigrated to the United States with her young children Geraldine and Joel to reunite the family. Like many immigrants, they carried with them not just dreams but also tremendous courage and resilience.
Life had more challenges for the family. In 2008, Andre suffered a severe stroke that left him requiring full-time care in a nursing facility. Giselle became not only the sole provider for their three children but also a devoted caregiver to her husband Andre. For twelve years, until his passing in early 2020, she balanced these responsibilities with incredible strength and grace.
In November 2023, Giselle also suffered a stroke that led to a challenging six-month hospital stay. Upon her release, her children Geraldine, Joel, and Melone - became her primary caregivers. She made remarkable progress with her therapies and treatments. Her recovery was a testament to both her incredible strength and determination. Her children worked together, supporting her through every step of her rehabilitation until her sudden passing.
Gisele built her life around caring for others. Working tirelessly as a hair braider in St. Paul, she used her skilled hands to not only support her children, but to also send support to her family back in Togo.
