Suicide is a public health issue and the 11th leading cause of death in the United States.***
In 2021, there were over 48,000 deaths by suicide in the US and more than 6,000 of those were amongst Veterans.*
Our goal for this film is to support and engage in the conversation around victims of suicide and their loved ones while respecting the deeply tragic and sensitive nature of so many families' experiences.
Visual Storytellers
Director Cody Mark Hanna and Cinematographer Ian Cassidy have previously collaborated together on several film projects. Both have experienced the tragic and lasting effects of suicide in their lives and endeavor to craft this story through a unique and hopeful lens.
Our character is a Veteran who has become isolated and feels so alone that they can no longer see an alternative to ending their life. Our character reaches out for support many times without success, and nearly ends their life before an unexpected phone call breaks through to them. Several data demonstrates that "the individual's closest social circle have the most influence and can be supportive in times of crisis."**
This project will involve two days of shooting to complete our six page script. Our full production crew will deliver a quality film to shed light on important issues around suicide awareness and Veteran Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Our team is grateful for the opportunity to bring "The Last Phone Call," a timely and necessary story to audiences of all walks of life.
