Help Relaunch The Special Care Unit: A Mission of Compassion

Donation protected
As the granddaughter of a US Military Veteran, my personal and professional journey has been deeply shaped by the experience of caregiving. When I became the primary caregiver for my grandfather, I dedicated four years to his care, which led to a temporary pause in my business operations. This period, though challenging, only reinforced my passion for providing compassionate, high-quality care to those who need it most.

Today, I’m proud to relaunch The Special Care Unit with even greater determination and focus. Our mission remains the same: to deliver personalized, empathetic care to individuals in the comfort of their own homes. With an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau and a renewed commitment to our community, we are ready to make a positive impact.

Life has a way of challenging us in ways we never see coming. In 2017, when my car’s engine failed, it felt like the beginning of a series of tough breaks that tested everything I had built. Without transportation, I had to let go of my private duty care case, which was the heartbeat of The Special Care Unit. This business, born out of my passion for providing compassionate, high-quality care to those who need it most, suddenly found itself struggling. I didn’t have enough working capital to sustain us during those slow periods, and our operations took a hit.

Then came an even bigger challenge. My grandfather, whom everyone lovingly calls “Papa,” fell ill and needed constant care. With two young children and another on the way, I became Papa’s primary caregiver. It wasn’t easy—he wasn’t receiving his full VA benefits, so it was up to me to take him to all his appointments, pay for his prescriptions, and make sure he had everything he needed. All of this while trying to keep our home running and ensuring my kids were taken care of. My business, which I’d poured so much of my heart into, had to be put on hold.

For four years, I was balancing being a mother, a granddaughter, and a business owner. The pandemic didn’t make it any easier, but despite the struggles, I wouldn’t have had it any other way. Taking care of Papa was one of the hardest but most meaningful things I’ve ever done. I loved him dearly, and I’m grateful for every moment I got to spend with him.

In 2022, Papa passed away, leaving a hole in our hearts. But his passing also marked a turning point for me. I had a choice—either let The Special Care Unit fade away, or bring it back stronger than ever. I chose to fight for our future.

Today, I’m in a better place. I’ve been working tirelessly to reestablish The Special Care Unit, making sure we’re fully compliant and ready to serve our community again. We’ve secured our standing with the Virginia State Corporation Commission, and I’m reconnecting with healthcare providers to get back on track. But this relaunch isn’t just about getting back on our feet—it’s about growth and expansion.

My vision for The Special Care Unit goes beyond the care we’ve always provided. I’m establishing a full testing center for nurse aides to take their state board exams, which will create valuable opportunities for healthcare professionals and generate additional revenue to sustain our mission. We’re also expanding our offerings to include uniforms for sale, adding another stream of income. But to make this vision a reality, I need your help.
This GoFundMe
campaign is about raising the funds we need to advance our marketing efforts and get the word out about our relaunch. Every donation will help us reach more families who need our care and support the growth of our services. Your contribution will make a real difference in ensuring that The Special Care Unit can continue to serve our community with the same compassion and quality that Papa inspired in me.

Thank you for being a part of this journey. With your help, we can make a lasting impact on the lives of those who need it most.

Financial Forecast: To bring this vision to life, I am seeking an investment of $15,000. This capital will be allocated as follows:
• $5,000: Purchasing state of the art computers and software for our Healthcare Testing Center.

• $5,000: Investing in inventory for our personalized healthcare worker uniforms and accessories.

• $5,000: Working capital to cover initial operational expenses, marketing efforts, and unexpected costs as we establish and grow this new phase of our business.
