Support the Staff of El Mariachi – A Beloved Astoria Restaurant Closed Without Notice
El Mariachi Restaurant in Astoria has been a cornerstone of our neighborhood for years—a go-to spot for birthdays, celebrations, cozy date nights, and spontaneous margaritas with friends. Locals loved the generous portions, delicious food, and warm hospitality that made El Mariachi feel like home.
But this week, that chapter ended abruptly.
On Monday, the restaurant closed its doors without warning.
The staff—some of whom have been with El Mariachi for nearly 20 years—were given no notice. They found out the restaurant was closed only moments before their shifts were supposed to begin. Adding insult to injury, they have not been paid for their most recent work period.
This isn't just the loss of a neighborhood favorite—it's a profound injustice to the workers who made El Mariachi what it was. These are people who greeted us with smiles, remembered our usual orders, and worked tirelessly through holidays and tough times.
They deserve better than to be discarded without pay or warning.
In a time of economic uncertainty and political instability, we’re asking our neighbors to come together and help.
Let’s show these workers that the community sees them, appreciates them, and has their back. Every donation will go directly to the affected staff to help them bridge this sudden loss of income and get back on their feet.
Whether you had your birthday dinner here, shared a laugh over tacos, or just appreciated the comfort of a familiar neighborhood spot—this is your chance to give back.
Let’s take care of each other. Let’s take care of them.
With gratitude,
