6-year-old Josh Summitt “broke” his arm in May. X- Rays were taken, he was seen and treated by an orthopedist, and there was every reason to believe Josh would have a full and complete recovery.
Yet, Josh continued to complain that his arm hurt A LOT.
Believing that as an active child who loves to play hard at gymnastics, swim, and do all things outdoors along with his little sister, Teresa, it seemed reasonable that his arm was still healing from the “break.”
However, it felt prudent to his parents, Amelia and Don, that they should have his arm rechecked. At the visit, the doctor ordered another X-Ray. Within a few hours, Amelia received the X-Ray report that stated there was a mass on the bone and it was highly suspicious for cancer.
The world as they knew it fell out from under their feet.
Referrals to pediatric oncology specialists were made with all haste and after several arduous days of tests and biopsies, their worst fear became a reality. Ewing Sarcoma is the name that rang in their ears as the doctors explained the diagnosis.
Ewing Sarcoma is an extremely rare bone cancer. They must treat it aggressively and swiftly.
The pediatric oncology specialist team has plotted out a treatment plan that will span the next nine months. Josh will endure 12 weeks of chemotherapy, followed by surgery, followed by another 12 weeks of chemotherapy.
Amelia will need to leave her job.
Now, with medical expenses and lost income, the Precious Summitt Family would greatly benefit from financial assistance.
If you are able to contribute a donation of any amount, it will help support the Summitt Family as they navigate through their derailed life from this devastating, staggering and agonizing diagnosis.
Every donation, no matter what size, will be embraced with heartfelt gratitude.
Please share this story and keep Josh and the Summitt Family in your hearts and prayers.
