LaGreg was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in May 2017. He was determined to fight the cancer, and his family and friends rallied to support him, as he started his chemotherapy treatments. He wanted desperately to attend his high school graduation in person. The doctors were reluctant to let him do this because he was admitted exactly 30 days before graduation and that was how long his treatment course needed to run. They didn’t think he’d be strong enough to leave the hospital. LaGreg fought to build up his immune system to a point where the doctors allowed him to attend, though still reluctantly. LaGreg graduated with his class, in person, in June 2017. LaGreg achieved many of these “mini” victories during his illness.
He successfully received a bone marrow transplant from his sister, Ariana, in October 2017. In January 2018, the cancer was declared to be in remission. As you can imagine - the celebration we had for LaGreg’s healing knew no bounds. He continued doing the things he loved like drawing and spending time with his family and friends.
On November 1, 2019, LaGreg drove himself to a regular follow-up appointment, only to be told, unfortunately, that his cancer had returned. As he had done when he received his original diagnosis, LaGreg determined that he was going to fight the disease with everything he had. He started chemotherapy right away, and in late December 2019, doctors indicated that there were no longer any cancer indicators in his blood. Unfortunately, LaGreg’s immune system was very weakened by his treatment, and he developed an infection which led to fungal pneumonia. He died on Saturday morning, December 21.
We are shocked and unbearably saddened by LaGreg’s untimely passing. His brief life has impacted so many people in a very positive way. We are asking for your support as the family deals with this tremendous void in their lives, and unexpected funeral expenses. We know that his mother Sherice has played an important part in lives of so many people through her music ministry, and we hope that supporting this GoFundMe is an opportunity for you to give back.
