Support the Unity Debate Team

We are Suzannah Tartan and Anna Lokey, the coaches for the Unity Prep Debate team. Debate is the royal road to college acceptances and the halls of power: almost all Supreme Court judges as well as stars like Oprah Winfrey and Chadwick Boseman participated in debate in high school. Unfortunately, the speech and debate world is also notoriously expensive meaning that schools like ours -serving mainly low-income black and brown students - have a significant barriers to participation. Last year the Unity Prep Debate Team proved however that we could compete with the best schools in New York City sending debaters to both state and national tournaments.

This year we want to expand our team but we need help - COVID funding is over for schools and our school does not have the budget to fund the team.

These funds will be used for transportation to both local, state, and national tournaments, accommodation at away tournaments, uniforms for debaters, resources such as database subscriptions and memberships in debating coaching support groups.
