Support the work of the Doctors’ Association UK (DAUK)
Donation protected
We are a group of volunteer doctors and medical students working on the frontlines of the NHS. We advocate for both the medical profession and patients, and we fight for a better NHS. We are strictly non-profit and our collective voice aims to be at the heart of policy making for health, engaging with the media outlets whose opinions inform the public.
Jenny Vaughan Memorial Conference
Saturday 17th May 2025
We are currently raising funds to help run our conference next Spring. Any donations will enable us to run it free for delegates and compensate our speakers. If you can donate even a few pounds we would be grateful for your support!
Our Work
Much of our work centres around helping colleagues who have been mistreated in the workplace, by campaigning for a just culture: #LearnNotBlame and we have supported many doctors since our formation in 2018. We speak with media outlets on an almost daily basis. Some of our current ongoing campaigns include:
GP Crisis
Our GP team formed in 2020 to speak up against the barrage of negative press GPs faced during the pandemic. We have delivered multiple MP briefings highlighting the current systemic problems alongside some achievable solutions, and spoken extensively to the press. Our team contributed to the book "Why Can't I See My GP ?" and we sent a copy to all 650 MPs asking them to put general practice at the heart of their political manifestos.
Physician Associates
DAUK is actively involved in the national discourse around the roles of physician associates (PAs) and anaesthesia associates (AAs). We have been vocal in the media, raising concerns about their roles and the regulation by the General Medical Council (GMC).
More than 2,800 doctors signed a letter from DAUK to the GMC, warning the proposed regulation of PAs and AAs will undermine standards and put patients at risk.
We briefed politicians in the House of Commons and House of Lords on the draft Anaesthesia Associates and Physician Associates Order 2024, the legislation for the regulation of non-doctors by the GMC, as it passed through Parliament.
We responded to the GMC consultation on their regulation, highlighting the widespread concern on the lack of scope and standards in what is being proposing. We have given our support and contributed financially to a legal challenge by Anaesthetists United to the GMC regulation of PAs and AAs
Climate Campaign
DAUK is actively campaigning for a Greener NHS, because the climate crisis and health crisis are interlinked. DAUK are proud to be one of the first health organisations to support the Climate and Ecology Bill, introduced by Caroline Lucas MP as a private members’ bill in September 2020. We are working with Zero Hour to work on the health hazards caused by climate change and alter climate inaction in the political sphere.
We recently joined Plant-Based Health Professionals UK (PBHP UK ) to highlight serious concerns from the medical profession over the Government-backed Let’s Eat Balanced campaign. Chris Packham, the broadcaster, environmental activist, and animal welfare campaigner, supported our essay-writing competition for medical students on the subject of biodiversity.
Protect the Frontline
Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic we provided a calm and consistent voice in the media. We supported NHS staff to share their stories anonymously through us to ensure the public were aware of conditions on the frontline whilst protecting doctors' identity.
During the first wave we fought tirelessly for doctors whilst working on the NHS frontlines ourselves. We helped deliver PPE to GPs, we secured a death in service benefit for health and social care staff, we saw the deeply unfair immigration health surcharge scrapped for our hard working NHS staff.
As the voice of frontline doctors we advocated for NHS staff at the highest levels of Government. We have ongoing involvement with the Covid Enquiry.
NHS whistleblowing
DAUK supports the proposal for the Office of the Whistleblower alongside not for profit organisation Whistleblower UK to change how society thinks about whistleblowing.
DAUK’s Dr David Nicholl joined politicians, health leaders, and campaigners for a Westminster roundtable organised by the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Whistleblowing. He has also highlighted our work at the Medical Journalists’ Association’s (MJA) symposium on Building Trust in Health Journalism.
Overseas NHS Workers Day
Overseas NHS Workers Day is now a firm fixture in the calendar and provides a chance to celebrate the incredible contribution they make to the NHS and the health of our nation. It is central to the work we do to speak up for International Medical Graduates and the challenges they face within the NHS.
Medical Students
Our student team spearheaded the Liveable NHS Bursary Campaign which supports better medical student funding.
Will you help our frontline doctors continue to campaign for NHS staff?
If you can, please give generously.
Thank you so much, from the bottom of our hearts.
