Lebanon is facing one of its most devastating crises in recent history. What began as a smaller skirmish has escalated into full-scale conflict, with Israeli airstrikes bombarding southern Lebanon, the Bekaa Valley, and other areas. The impact of these attacks has been catastrophic, with over 200,000 people displaced according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM). Recent reports event reported more than 1 million displaced due to recent escalation. Hundreds have been killed, and thousands have been left injured as the violence rages on.

This escalation has caused mass displacement across southern Lebanon, the Bekaa region, and the suburbs of Beirut. Thousands of families—comprising Lebanese, Syrians, Palestinians, and migrant workers—have fled their homes in search of safety. Many of them now reside in schools and public institutions that have been repurposed as shelters. The needs of these displaced populations are enormous. They require food, water, hygiene kits, baby formula, mattresses, blankets, and safe spaces to stay, especially as winter approaches.

The humanitarian situation is further compounded by Lebanon's severe economic crisis. Local resources are stretched thin, and relief efforts are struggling to keep pace with the rapidly growing needs. The risk of tensions rising between communities is increasing, as competition for scarce resources becomes more intense.

Who We Are: Threads of Peace (known as House of Peace)

Threads of Peace, also known as House of Peace, was formed in 2012 as a local initiative, and officially registered in 2019. We began as a small group of young people committed to building a better future for Lebanon. Despite our growth, our mission has always remained the same: to promote peace, foster social stability, and provide humanitarian assistance to Lebanon’s most vulnerable communities.

For the past ten years, we have worked across all of Lebanon, specializing in emergency response, peacebuilding, and social cohesion. Our team is made up of diverse individuals from different backgrounds, all united by our core values of non-violence, diversity, and accountability. We have extensive experience in supporting displaced populations, advocating for conflict sensitivity, and promoting inclusive, equitable relief efforts.

Our Response to the Crisis

We are currently on the ground, actively responding to the needs of the displaced populations. In coordination with local authorities and other humanitarian agencies, Threads of Peace is providing life-saving assistance to thousands of displaced families. Our interventions include:

1. Provision of Basic Necessities: We are distributing essential items such as food, water, blankets, clothing, baby formula, and hygiene kits to displaced families in shelters across Beirut, Tripoli, Zahle, and Saida. These relief efforts focus on supporting the most vulnerable—women, children, and the elderly—who are most at risk in this crisis.

2. Temporary Shelter Support: In Tripoli, our community center is acting as a temporary shelter for families who have not yet secured a place in government-designated shelters. We provide a safe space for these families until they can be relocated to more permanent accommodation.

3. Equitable and Inclusive Relief Efforts: At Threads of Peace, we believe that all displaced individuals, regardless of nationality or background, deserve equal access to aid. We are ensuring that our relief efforts are non-discriminatory and conflict-sensitive, promoting social stability in the face of rising tensions.

4. Coordination with Local Networks: We are leveraging our well-established community networks, including women-led initiatives and local volunteers, to ensure that relief is delivered effectively and reaches all affected populations. Our volunteers are also helping to refer families to other support services as needed.
