“THRILL THE WORLD” is an annual worldwide simultaneous dance of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.” Here in the Lake Chapala area of Mexico, we are celebrating our 14th Anniversary, where Zombies, young and old, Mexican and Expats, learn the dance and raise money for local charities.
Thrill the World Ajijic is the largest group of participants in the entire organization that maintains the largest age range group of dances. We have local Mexican kids that love to participate every year as young as 4 years old, and we have retired expats that keep attending year after year well in their 80s!
This year, the recipient of funds generated by Thrill the World Ajijic 2024 will be the Rotary Club of Ajijic. This dynamic club has been an integral part of our community since 2002. Rotary is the oldest (1905) and one of the largest service organizations in the world with over 46,000 Rotary Clubs with 1.4 million members in 166 countries. We embrace diversity of race, gender, religion, and sexual orientation. Rotary International has been instrumental in the eradication of Wild Polio, immunizing almost 3 billion children around the world since 1979.
Rotary International has Seven Areas of Focus:
- Maternal & Child Health
- Disease Prevention & Treatment
- Water, Sanitation & Hygiene
- Literacy & Education
- Peace & Conflict Resolution
- Community & Economic Development
- Environment
The Rotary Club of Ajijic (RCOA) has contributed to most of these with the following projects in recent years:
- Free breast cancer and prostate screenings for low-income individuals
- Support of post-op mastectomy patients through Salvati, Guadalajara.
- Blood drive in Guadalajara
- Providing 10 new laptop computers to a local primary school.
- Helping a local mother to obtain a renal (kidney) transplant.
- Scholarships and support for high school and university students
- Support of Ajijic boys and girls soccer teams
- Supporting a music school in San Juan Cosala (now Ajijic)
- Donations to Operation Feed SJC
- Sex education and empowerment for pre-teen and teen girls via Ninas Sabias
- HeartMath™ suicide prevention in Indian tribal populations
We meet four Tuesdays a month at La Bodega Restaurant at 124 16th de Septiembre for a noon lunch and a 1 pm one-hour meeting. If you would like to donate, attend a meeting, or would like to learn more about the Rotary Club of Ajijic, please speak to one of the volunteers.
Elliott Joaquim started this event 14 years ago with just a few participants and each year, not only have we grown in the numbers of “Zombies” but also in the amount of money raised for charities. Last year, we received and donated over $67,300 Mexican Pesos ($3,715 USD).
Won't you please help us achieve our GoFundMe goal of $10,000 USD?
