It’s hard to capture in words the essence of her remarkable spirit. Tiare Beatriz Couto shared magic and joy with the people she loved, impacting us all deeply, as a passionate young woman who truly showed up for her family and friends.
She fully embraced the vitality and energy that life gave her. Experiencing it with an open heart and a passion to do better for our planet. Tiare, a 19 year-old double major in Environmental & Sustainability Studies and Political Science at University of Utah, dedicated herself to fighting for the planet we share. She had the love of Oahu’s breathtaking North Shore and the backdrop of Utah’s snow-capped mountains as two of her many inspirations to protect and fight against single use plastics, climate change, and environmental racism.
Tiare lived a full and connected life, sharing her light with all those around her. It is with unbearable heartbreak and true devastation that we share news of the death of our beloved Tiare, on January 1st, 2025 in a tragic accident on a hiking trail in Oahu, where she was born and raised.
Her mother, father, siblings and extended family are mourning deeply during this time, when they should be celebrating her return from Winter Break to college in Utah. Please help us support Tiare’s selfless and kind mother, Laura and loving father, Danilo while they experience the unimaginable loss of a child. Tiare’s spirit will be in every grain of sand and every snowflake, her memory carried in the hearts of so many. We are all better because of her light, her passion, and her joy. May she rest in peace and know that her short life inspired countless people.
