Support Tiffy Hammond (FidgetsAndFries) & Family
Donation protected
Please donate in support of Tiffany Hammond (Autistic creator behind the IG account fidgets.and.fries) as she and her family support their Autistic son, Aidan, through a hospital stay. Three hours away from home. With few resources and support around them. With heavy hearts full of love and also despair.
The funds will go to travel expenses, like transportation, place to stay, and livelihood, as well as seeking quality care for Aidan in the hospital (e.g. patient advocate that understands ASD, etc.).
Who is Tiffany Hammond? In her words: "I'm Tiffy, the voice behind Fidgets and Fries. I'm an Autistic mother, advocate, and storyteller who uses my personal experiences with Autism and parenting two Autistic boys to guid others on their journey. My activism is rooted in challenging the current perception of Autism as a lifelong burden, cultivating a community that explores the concept of Intersectionality, and inspiring thought leaders through storytelling, education, and critical discourse."
Tiffany has been calling out to community.
For years, she has provided educational and personal accounts about autism from her lived experience as a Black autistic woman and the mother of autistic children. Now is the time for us to show up for Tiffany and provide support for her and her family. She has given so much (all for free).
Let us give back. Whether you are autistic yourself, know & love an autistic person, or are an ally to the autistic community, please consider a donation. No amount is too small as we rise together in collective mutual support.
In the words of Tiffany Hammond (taken from her IG account):
"My son is in the hospital. We required help that most just don't provide. I am sitting in a hospital room with my family for I don't know how long because we have no resources here.
"We saw this coming for some time but it still hurts. You can't ever prepare yourself for this. He is a shell of the person we know. Still gorgeous. Still my baby. But he's hurting and it shows... We almost don't recognize him from how much weight he has lost. But he's still my beautiful boy I will do anything and everything for.
"I am trying everything I can. I am spending more time in clinics and doctor's offices than I am at home, trying to figure out if it's medical... Most of his medical specialists are hours away because there just aren't many doctors who see patients with developmental disabilities.
"When either of my boys (or myself) is in crisis the options are limited. Police or inpatient services. And I don't need to tell you how Black ppl fare with the police. But I do need to tell you that most facilities in this state [Texas] will not treat patients with Autism and co-diagnoses because the 'Autism complicates the treat.'
"He's in pain and looking for mama. He hurts from the inside out and tries to comfort me at the same time. Those same hands that cause himself pain, rub my arm. As if to say, 'I'm in pain, you haven't figured it out, but it's okay. You're trying." But it's not okay.
"We are three hours from home with no support system in the area. We may have to split up. Honestly I don't know how to ask for help. I don't know how to ask for donations. So I guess this is me asking for help... If you would like to help us with a meal or some hot chocolate while we are here, it would be most appreciated.
"I really do have the best community here and I thank y’all for loving me whole and caring for my family as well."
Please note: This GoFundMe was created with Tiffany's consent. I do not speak for Tiffany Hammond, but am creating this fundraiser as a friend and fellow advocate. ALL DONATIONS will go to Tiffany Hammond and her family.
