Support Tina's Battle with Breast Cancer

Hi, my name is Amy and this is for my oldest sister, Tina. Last year, she was diagnosed with stage III breast cancer with invasive ductal carcinoma. She has spent the past year fighting for her life, with several setbacks along the way.

She has a combination of calcified nodules, non-calcified nodules, cysts, pulmonary sarcoidosis (a rare condition which causes granulomas to form in the lungs and lymph nodes), dislocation of both sacroiliac joints, mitral valvular prolapse, and of course, cancer.

Currently, Tina is recovering from a radical mastectomy, where a surgeon removed her breast, its underlying chest muscle, and the lymph nodes from her armpit. Because this is an estrogen cancer, there are still cancer cells in her body. She will be on estrogen blockers for the next 5 years and for the next 3 years, will be on a prescription to counteract the bone density loss. Once strong enough, she will go through radiation 5 days a week for 4 weeks, while we wait to see if the cancer can be completely cured.

And for the first time in this year-long process, my widowed sister is off work, unable to provide for herself or her daughter.

Tina does not qualify for unemployment and because her employer changed policies for short-term disability in January, she no longer qualifies for this, as there is a clause excluding pre-existing conditions.

She has not really asked family or friends to help her out financially, though many of us have given what we could. Tina is on the brink of eviction and has mounting medical bills that she needs assistance with. She has remained positive throughout this entire experience, never once losing her smile or her faith.

In her own words, “God has blessed me with life itself!!! Jesus will surely heal all that I have wrong in time… The angels work overtime to protect me from harm's way!!! … Your sister is going to be fine. I will be ok.”
