Keep Hizma Healthy and Safe
The village I love, Hizma in the West Bank in Palestine, is facing a life-and-death challenge and I ask your help.
I am a doctor, a specialist in Neurology and Neuro-Ophthalmology, currently Practicing in Miami, Florida — and I grew up in Hizma.
As of July 18th, there are 8204 cases of COVID-19 in the West Bank and Gaza, with a serious outbreak of 1383 cases in E. Jerusalem — Israel has 46,444 cases. 80% of Palestine’s cases are from workers now returning home from Israel and the virus is spreading. Testing has now resumed throughout the West Bank and Hizma is now testing regularly too.
Recognizing the risks, a group of physicians, healthcare workers, and social workers formed the Hizma Emergency Committee (HEC). They have been volunteering around the clock to provide free healthcare services, social care, and essential needs such as medications to Hizma’s residents. Now the CORONA-19 virus is everywhere, we must continue and do more! Because movement between cities has entirely stopped, getting to a hospital is a real challenge.

Here’s what we have:
(a) Two separate buildings were made available rent-free for both centers and
(b) Healthcare providers have volunteered to support each center.
Here’s what we need:
1. The Urgent Care Center needed renovation, new furniture, and new equipment. We are now in the implementation phase, with a total cost at nearly $35,000.
2. We continue to need oxygen generators, Dinamap Vital signs monitors, Ventolin, Laryngoscopes, Monitors, Nasal Cannula, Masks, Gloves, Gowns, Face Shields, Hand Sanitizers, Medications, Oral fluids and electrolytes on an ongoing basis estimated at $10,000; and
If things get worse, we may ask your help to buy an ambulance for Hizma.
We set our first goal at $45K to renovate the Urgent Care center as our first priority

To assure that funds will be spent exactly as promised, we are working with Rebuilding Alliance, a U.S. 501(c)3 nonprofit with EIN 56-2392452, based in California. Rebuilding Alliance has been partnering with Palestinian NGO’s since 2003 in support of village-directed aid and advocacy. As the HEC identifies suppliers, Rebuilding Alliance will make the purchases, and the HEC will manage delivery and installation. Donations are tax-deductible in the U.S.
I wish you and your family good health and safety. And please find it in your heart to donate to this life-saving endeavor. I give you my personal gratitude and the thanks from all those whom you will save.
Sincerely,
