Urgent Support to Provide Meals for Displaced Families
Background: Since the beginning of the war in Lebanon, over 1.3 million individuals have been displaced, facing unimaginable hardships as they fled their homes. While the government’s emergency response unit has established approximately 900 official shelters to provide some level of support, these shelters are inadequate to meet the vast needs of the displaced population. Many families have been left homeless, with some residing on the streets and others living in empty, unfurnished apartments without any resources to sustain themselves.
Among these displaced individuals are 23 vulnerable families (a total of 105 individuals) now residing in an unfinished building in Furn El-Chebbak, Beirut. They have lost their homes and livelihoods, and are now struggling to survive with no income, no furniture, and no access to basic necessities, including food. Their living conditions are terrible, and despite their urgent needs, they do not receive any support from formal aid mechanisms.
The Current Living Conditions: These displaced families are enduring severe hardships, living in bare, unfurnished apartments with no beds, kitchen utensils, or means to cook food. While we have secured donations to provide them with basic items such as mattresses, blankets and clothes, this is not enough. They remain in a desperate situation, with no regular assistance and no way to sustain themselves.
The government shelters, which have kitchens to provide meals, are already overwhelmed and cannot accommodate all displaced families. As a result, many families, like the 23 in Furn El-Chebbak, are left to fend for themselves. These families are relying solely on the community and personal efforts to survive, with no formal aid to support them.
Our Efforts and Appeal for Support: At Zmrd Social Space, we have stepped in to provide daily lunch meals for these 105 individuals. We are willing to continue this effort by covering the operational costs, using our kitchen and staff to ensure these vulnerable families are fed. However, we urgently need external support to cover the direct cost of food and other goods required to sustain this initiative.
The families we are assisting are in urgent need of consistent access to nutritious meals. Their situation is worsening by the day, and without external funding, we will not be able to continue providing them with the food they need to survive.
Conclusion: We are appealing for your support to help us continue providing daily meals for these 23 displaced families. Without additional funding, we will be forced to stop this effort, leaving these families without access to food. Your support will make an immediate and profound impact on their well-being, giving them the nourishment and stability, they desperately need.
We are prepared to provide any supporting evidence to ensure transparency in our request. We would deeply appreciate any referrals to other initiatives, donors or organizations that may be able to assist.
Thank you for your time and consideration of this urgent request. Together, we can help these families through this difficult time.
