Support to Stay Alive

Hi! I am Chibu, a Ph.D. international student at a University in Ottawa, and I have been in Canada for four years.

I have been dedicated to my studies and have done all I can to stay in university to finish my program. My goal is to contribute to society, mentor the next generation of cybersecurity professionals, and go back home to help people combat the proliferation of cybercrime.

They say bad things sometimes happen to good people, but I know everything happens for a reason. I was diagnosed in 2017 with end-stage renal disease through no fault of mine while completing my master's program in the USA. To stay alive, I had to undergo several medical treatments and begin dialysis treatments in 2018. Because of this life-threatening condition, I had to take breaks in school and take up menial jobs to survive. My family back home has supported me in every way they can through these challenging times.

The expensive cost of treatment (currently owe the hospital over $97,000) and my having to do menial jobs despite my medical condition is affecting my health. In addition, it affects my ability to continue my education and provide the necessary support to my family.

To make matters worse, after I qualified and applied for permanent residency in Canada in 2020, I was told by Immigration Canada that I might be disqualified from becoming a resident only because my medical condition would strain the Canadian Healthcare system if I stayed permanently in Canada.

I had to pay and hire lawyers to defend me to continue to stay in Canada. The legal costs have been enormous and have caused me a lot of mental and health distress. Sadly, I have to spend substantial legal fees on protecting my human rights and fighting for my right to stay in Canada to get the medical treatment I need to stay alive.

The Lord has kept me alive despite all these tribulations, and I know the Lord will make a way where there seems to be no way.

My friends have supported me and encouraged me to make this post, and I feel this is one of my last options to raise the funds I need to continue medical treatment to stay alive.

I am reaching out to you because I have no other options, and I hope you will help me in your little way to help me continue the treatment I need to stay alive and pay for previous treatments which is currently over $97,000.
