Support for Tokava Coffee Union Workers
Donation protected
Hi everyone ,
As some of you know, one of our most senior coworkers Kyle was fired in the middle of his shift on Saturday October 28th. It happened in front of a room full of customers. The week prior, Kyle had a medical emergency and closed the store 30 minutes early. It was deemed "unacceptable" and led to his termination.
We have tried to work with the owner to meet on equal and fair terms over Kyle's firing, but it has been unsuccessful. We have also tried to have meetings with him to negotiate a contract, but since September of last year when we unionized we have only met once. Despite our willingness to work with him on these things amicably, we have been brushed aside.
We love serving y'all coffee and we hold dear the community we have shared together in the Tokava coffee space with you over the past couple of years. It's special. We want to keep it up. And we also want to be treated fairly and with respect, and to maintain our dignity as the workers of Tokava.
Thank you for supporting and believing in our endeavor, the support from y'all has been overwhelming and inspiring and speaks to the kind of community we share with you. We hope to see you all again on the other side of this. Thank you for anything you can give. It means a whole lot.
love, your Tokava baristas (Tommy, Zion, Peri, and Kyle.)
