Support Tom (84km in 48hr Challenge)
This weekend I'm aiming to run 84 kilometres (the equivalent of two marathons) over a 48-hour period.
I'll be doing this in 13 runs of ~6.45km each, every four hours. It's going to hurt but I'll find meaning in the suffering by focussing on raising a few dollars for one of the Australian branches of Achilles International.
This is how they describe the work they do:
"Achilles provides athletes with disabilities with a community of support. Able-bodied volunteers and disabled runners come together to train in an environment of support and community. Within this community, runners gain measurable physical strength and build confidence through their sense of accomplishment, which often transfers to other parts of their life."
I've watched with admiration young, able-bodied runners holding the hands of elderly, blind and disabled runners as they complete laps of Yoyogi Park together.
This is my way of lending support to Achilles, since my limited Japanese language skills means I would not be an effective running guide, particularly for the blind.
Every dollar will be greatly appreciated!
