Help Us Honor our Bico with a Memorial at St. Jude’s

On August 8, 2024, we lost our beloved dad and grandfather, Tom Gulacy, after an incredibly brave and heartbreaking battle with pulmonary fibrosis. His illness was the result of environmental exposure during his career, and although he received a single lung transplant in April, his body was simply too weak. He fought hard until the very end of his time here. He truly wanted to stay.

His birthday is today, October 12th- he would have been 77, and this year for his birthday- we’d like to give him a gift we know he would have been so honored to receive.

Our dad was a warrior, right until his last breath. But more than that, he was a giver. He gave his time, his love, and his energy to those who needed it most. He always found joy in supporting others, and no organization meant more to him than St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. He loved their mission and the hope they provided. St. Jude’s was “his” charity, a place he felt deeply connected to.

It was his dream to have a “whole wing” dedicated to him at St. Jude’s—and we can’t give him that wing just yet, we can honor him in a way that feels meaningful to us and to him. We are raising money to place a Steward Plaque at St. Jude’s, a small tribute Wave
of Thanks Wall in the hospital, giving
patients and their families hope.

Our dad wasn’t just special to us—he was special to everyone who knew him. He had a heart so full of generosity and kindness. He spent his life giving back, whether through his career or the countless hours he dedicated to causes like St. Jude’s. He believed in helping those who couldn’t help themselves, especially children. And it’s because of this deep connection that we feel this is the best way to carry on his legacy.

We are hoping to raise enough funds to secure a 4 x 2-inch Supporter Plaque at St. Jude’s, which will be placed in the hallway connecting the Patient Care and Research Centers. It’s a small plaque, but its significance is monumental. It will stand as a lasting testament to our dad’s spirit and his unending support for a cause he held so close to his heart.

Any contribution, no matter the size, will help us get closer to fulfilling this dream for our dad. Every donation is a step toward keeping his memory alive in a place where hope and healing thrive, a place he loved.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for helping us make this happen. We know he would be so proud to have his name forever associated with a place that gave him so much purpose and pride.

With love and gratitude,
Cris, Alex, and the Boys
