Support Tom's Severe Burn Recovery Journey

Dear Friends, Family, and Folks from Afar,
I never imagined I would be writing this, but my family is facing an unimaginable challenge, and we need your help. It takes a village to get through times like these, and this past week has been nothing short of devastating.
On Monday night, my father was in a horrific accident where his body caught on fire. He suffered second and third-degree burns covering 25% of his body and was immediately flown from St. Joe's to the UCSF Burn Center, where he is now receiving the best possible care.
My dad, Tom, was born and raised in Humboldt and has spent over 25 years working for numerous roofing companies in the area. His body has always been his greatest tool, allowing him to provide for his family and help countless others. If you've ever had a red roofing truck at your house or business, there's a good chance my dad was the one who worked on your roof. Even beyond his job, he has always been the one I call when I need help—whether it's boarding up broken windows at 3 a.m. or walking into a house I'm too scared to enter alone. That's my dad. Hard-working, selfless, and protective.
The road to recovery ahead is going to be long and painful. His medical team has already had to remove skin from his arm and chest to prevent dangerous tightening, and before skin grafts and repairs can even begin, his body must undergo numerous cleanings. Due to the severity of his burns, his head had to be shaved, his eyelashes are singed, and right now, he can’t move his body. But even in the hardest moments, I still told him he will always be prettier than me.
Doctors estimate that he will need to remain hospitalized for at least a month, possibly longer, as his body fights to heal. This also means he may not be able to work for six months to a year. Right now, my dad is the sole provider for my mother and nephew, and this tragedy has left an overwhelming financial and emotional burden on our family. On top of the medical costs, we are now preparing for weekly trips to San Francisco, long-term rehabilitation, the need for sterile equipment, and all the unexpected expenses that come with such a life-altering injury.
My parents would never ask for help, but as their child, I see the need, and it is far more than I can handle alone. Asking for support is never easy, and my dad—who firmly, "did not want photos of him to be on social media,"—would never want to be the center of attention. But I love my parents, and recognize the need to be an advocate for them right now.
Watching the most capable person I love become completely incapable, while being powerless to help, is the most devastating feeling as a daughter.
My rock. My go-to mover. My favorite roofer.
Any support—whether a donation, a kind word, or a memory of my dad—means everything to us. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support during this difficult time. I will continue to provide updates as we navigate this journey together.
With gratitude, love, & appreciation
