Antoinette “Toni” Hodges is a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and an awesome lady of tremendous character and strength, but on April 14. 2018 that strength and character was challenged. Toni had not been feeling too well over the last few weeks and on Monday April 9 she felt she had better go to the emergency room as the exhaustion she was experiencing became overwhelming. Her blood count was diagnosed as been extremely and dangerously low and after several failed attempts at several diagnoses, a bone marrow biopsy was performed… Toni was told she has Leukemia.
I write this with great sadness because she was alone to receive the news of her illness. She was told chemotherapy will start on Monday April 16, 2018. Kyle will journey to Arizona this week to speak with doctors and discuss the plans for her treatment. I’m positioning myself to be there to take care of her upon her release for as long as I’m needed. My conversations with her had me very worried because she is WORRIED. Worried about her not being able to meet her bills while in the hospital and when she is released and will still have to undergo outpatient chemo. The doctors have already informed her that she will have a minimum of a one month stay in the hospital right now. Now because Toni is self-employed she can’t stop worrying about how she is going to meet her financial needs.
Friends, as you know it’s impossible to begin to heal if you are under extreme stress. I know that she has touched a lot of people during her lifetime and she has not ever hesitated to help anyone. Sometimes I get a little angered that she’s given to so many and some have taken advantage of her, but that’s Toni.
This GoFundMe page is being established so that all those that want to see Toni regain her health and happiness will tell her through your generosity. Let’s tell her,“Toni just get well, we’ve got your back”. It may be months before she’s strong enough to go back to working after the success of the chemo. She needs funds to allow her to come home and not worry about losing her housing while she’s in the hospital and unable to work. We will be working to get her established with some other disability funding but as anyone who has applied to SSA, it didn’t work fast before and now…
Toni has a network of family from Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Fulton County, San Jose Emergency Response, Sumner High School, SIU-E and more. Please help us get the word out and allow others to help Toni to focus on her health and not worry about her financial needs at this time.
Thank you,
