Support Tony Awwad's Medical Recovery

After years of separation due to COVID lock downs and economic turmoil in Lebanon, we were finally able to see our father, Tony Awwad, for the first time in 4 years. After spending some time with us in the US last year dad suffered a massive stroke shortly after his return to Lebanon.
We were told to prepare for the worst and, if we wanted to see our father one last time, make a trip to Lebanon as soon as possible. We all made the trip with our families so that we and our children could see our beloved father and “Jiddoh” (grandfather) one last time. Miraculously Dad survived, despite suffering from pneumonia, MRSA, a sever staph infection, having to undergo several life-saving procedures to clear infectious fluid from inside and around his lungs, and multiple other subsequent severe infections. The stroke has left him paralyzed on the left side of his body.
Dad spent a total of 6 months between hospitals and nursing centers, and finally returned to be cared for by private health care in his home. Recently, Dad has suffered another bout of pneumonia and had to be rushed to the hospital for a procedure to drain his lungs again.
Lebanon has faced an economic crisis since 2019, resulting in banks freezing all accounts.
Despite working his entire life and saving for retirement, our father only has had access to $150 per month of his retirement, recently raised to $300 temporarily in response to the displacement caused by the war between Israel and Hizbollah.
Unlike the US, Lebanese hospitals will not provide any treatment unless it is paid for upfront, and will not release a patient from the hospital until the bill is paid in full.
We have exhausted all our savings, taken out loans, maxed out credit cards to cover dad’s medical expenses and, as embarrassed as we are to ask for help, our family has exhausted all resources. So far we have paid close to $100,000.
Any donation you can spare is greatly appreciated to go towards the roughly $30K needed to cover this month of care and his recent medical procedures, as well as the stay in ICU and recovery at the hospital.
Dad has suffered a lot, both physically and mentally, with near death experiences and losing the ability to move his left side. He has a long road to recovery, but his spirits are high and he is determined to get better.
Our family has suffered several blows in the past year with the deaths of our beloved grandmother and uncle. We ask for your prayers for health and healing, and please know that you are all in our prayers and we are here for you in any way we can be.
God bless you all and thank you for your time and consideration, and for sharing this post.
