Tonya has a long road ahead of her they placed a peg tube in her stomach to allow her to get tube feedings. She has to unfortunately go to a Long Term Acute Care facility for 25 days to try to ease her into rehab, the doctors don’t feel like she is ready for intensive therapy yet. She has been laying on her back for 9 weeks and is getting very anxious and tired being on her back. She currently can not move herself she depends solely on family or hospital staff. Since Tonya was dropped at previous hospital and ended up needing 2 emergency surgery’s on her neck she is currently a quadriplegic. She is extremely scared to be dropped again. This has been a horrible experience and rough several months for Tonya, Andrew , Brittany and our family. Tonya has to be one of the strongest people I know and has had more than her fair share of problems. We don’t know the extent of rehab yet and won’t until she starts it. After being in the long term facility she then may have to go to a Short term rehab where they do several hours of rehabilitation. The doctors do not feel like Tonya can sustain long hours of rehab right now and they think this is best plan for her. As much as we want her home we know ultimately her health and rehabilitation needs are more important.

Update 3/12/25- Tonya is our little fighter, she is holding on vitals are currently stable, her potassium is low so they are handling that. Doctors would like her to remain on ventilator for a few more days so they can complete some procedures one of which is scheduled for tomorrow. Her team taking care of her feels it’s in her best interest to let her body rest and heal a little longer while she gets these test completed.

Our family greatly appreciates all the donations, calls, text and for all the prayers. Please continue praying Tonya is in good hands but her road to recovery is going to be long, I know my God will be right there to walk her through this tough time.

Hello Friends, Family & Community

We are starting this Go Fund Me Page for our Wife, Mother, Memaw, Sister, Sister-in-Law and Aunt Tonya Messimer. Tonya went to the emergency room 3-4 weeks ago for dehydration and had problems with feeling in her legs. Tonya was admitted to the hospital and contacted the hospital acquired pneumonia, staph infection in her blood and a bacteria infection that they have not been able to identify the source of infection. Tonya also sustained a fall hitting her head and back while in the 1st hospital in which she rapidly declined. MRI revealed 2 disks pressed in her spinal column plus fluid in and around her spine. Requiring back surgery. Surgeons are unable to do back surgery until Tonya becomes stable and strong enough to undergo back surgery. Tonya was then transferred to a second hospital where she coded and was put on life support in critical condition. She is Also suffering problems with multi organ system failure or failure to currently work properly right now and the extent of damage to organs at time being are unknown.

We are humbly reaching out to our family, friends and a loving & compassionate community seeking a lifeline and asking for donations to help pay for transportation costs to the hospital which is 2 hours away in a different town from where they live, overwhelming challenge of medical & hospital stay expenses, medications, rehabilitation, loss of wages for Tonya, her husband Andrew and their daughter Brittany who have been going to hospital everyday to ensure Tonya is getting the care she needs. Doctors are saying Tonya will be in the hospital for at least 4 more weeks if not longer and she will require back surgery and extensive physical therapy.

Tonya & Andrew have also vowed to take care of Tonya’s Elderly Stepfather who resides in their home and requires constant care and has made it difficult with loss wages and Tonya being in

hospital.

We ask for your prayers during this difficult time. Tonya is in need of a huge miracle from the Great Physician and we all know how faithful he is as we lean into him to pull her through we ask you do the same with us. Nothing stronger than a community coming together praying over your loved one and help each other through these difficult times.
