Support Transfolks in Immigrant Detention in CO
The Colorado Trans and Queer Immigrant Support Fund welcomes and offers aid to folks both inside and recently released from immigration detention as they make their way to their final destination. We invite you to support these efforts!
LGBTQ+ people are 97 times more likely to be victimized within detention than other detainees, according to a 2017 Center for American Progress analysis. There are only two places in the country that detains Transgender immigrants long term, Tacoma and Aurora. Trans and queer folks are often released from the Aurora GEO for profit immigrant detention center with minimal clothing and any belongings that haven’t been confiscated. Our funds help cover necessities such as cell phones, luggage and identity affirming essentials like makeup and gender appropriate clothing and shoes. We also give each person released with cash for incidentals.
Your contribution helps our Trans and Queer siblings gain stable footing as they move on to their next step towards safety - away from the trauma of detention. Please join us in creating a community that momentarily eases the trauma inflicted by the US immigration system. Thank you!
We will share updates here on this Go Fund me page, but you can also volunteer to do Airline Accompaniment, thrift store shopping (with very strict limits on items), store gender affirming clothes/shoes or host a welcome dinner for someone released. Folks bilingual in Spanish is a plus, but not necessary. Please share this opportunity to contribute with your community. Thank you!
