Support Travis's Multivisceral Transplant Journey
Donation protected
After almost five years of illness, Travis is faced with the news that he needs a Multivisceral transplant. This is an operation that involves the removal of basically every digestive organ: the liver, stomach, small and large intestines, and the pancreas. The transplant surgery takes 10 to 12 hours and requires a minimum of eight weeks recovery in the hospital, with an additional six to eight months of home recovery.
His doctors at IU are taking steps to get him to the point of being put on the transplant list. To build his strength, they put in a TPN line (Total Parenteral Nutrition). This is a method of feeding that bypasses the gastrointestinal tract. Unfortunately, he has developed a bacterial blood infection and the line had to be removed. The doctors are optimistic that it can be put back in place once the infection has cleared.
He has fought long and hard but, it has been decided that, he must apply for disability. Standing any length of time is no longer possible. The swelling and pain in his legs and back have become unbearable and makes the job he loves to do impossible.
He (and I) have been truly humbled and deeply moved by everyone’s generosity in the past. Unfortunately, we must ask for it again.
His daughter Avery, is living with him and provides a great deal of help, comfort, and support. But, she is in her last year of college and works nights and weekends. Therefore, she is unable to be with him at all times. He would like to stay in his home as long as possible. To do so, modifications and other arrangements need to be made. Also, the cost of his medical bills, medications, and dietary needs are astronomical and will only get higher. We are not sure when his disability will be approved. We have been told it can take months. Therefore, we are humbly asking for your help.
Thank you all for your caring and your past and continued support.
