Support Tribal and Visually Challenged Children

My name is Ronav Aviur and I believe in making a positive impact on our community through active service.

For over five years, I have been an active volunteer with VT Seva, a 501(c)3 non profit organization. This summer, through VT Seva, I was selected along with 14 other high schoolers from across North America to travel to rural India to teach underprivileged students at the Jeeyar Gurukulam school of indigenous tribals in Allampally, situated in the middle of the Kawal Tiger Reserve in the forests of Telangana India.

Allampally is a deeply backward, inaccessible village located deep in the forests of Kavval - a Tiger Reserve in the Adilabad district of Telangana, India. It is inhabited by tribals who live in small hamlets known as "thandas". The socio-economic connection of the tribal people living in these areas is dismal due to a lack of basic facilities like drinking water and sewage. Children work hard to earn wages and the tribals live in dire poverty. The Jeeyar Gurukulam provides free food, boarding and education for the children of these villages and contributes immensely to the development of the area.

The internship was a profound and eye-opening experience for me. This experience lit a flame in me and fueled my purpose to support these students in every way possible.
