Making Ugandan Heroes: A Journey to Greatness

Dear friends, supporters, and chess enthusiasts,

Today, we have a remarkable opportunity to make a profound impact on a community in need of inspiration and greatness. We introduce you to a group of talented young chess heroes from Uganda, who not only possess extraordinary skills but also come from a community longing for role models. These young players, having excelled at chess at a national level have the opportunity to represent Uganda, for the first time, on the International scene at the Youth U16 Olympiad in Eindhoven Netherlands August 12 -19 2023. By joining hands with us, we can uplift these children, their dreams and give hope to a nation and a generation while demonstrating the transformative power of chess in fostering greatness.

The Problem:

We all have our heroes, whose remarkable accomplishments fill us with pride and embody the greatness of our nation. From sports icons like Cheptegei, Chemutai, and Harold Wanyama, to teams like The Rugby Cranes, She Cranes and the Uganda Cranes, their victories have given us hope and shown us what is possible. But these heroes didn't reach greatness without struggle. Many faced financial constraints and obstacles along the way, preventing others from representing our beloved Uganda on the world stage.

Not anymore! Today, we have the collective responsibility to make our own heroes. We can walk alongside our national potential, nurturing and sharpening it, launching our stars into the world to shine their light, spreading hope and giving others permission to do the same.

Introducing Our Ugandan Chess Heroes:

We present a group of exceptional young chess heroes from Uganda who not only possess extraordinary skills but also come from a community longing for role models. These twelve (12) talented players have excelled at chess at a national level and now have the opportunity to represent Uganda on the international stage at the World Youth U16 Chess Olympiad in Eindhoven, Netherlands, from August 12th to 19th, 2023. By supporting them, we uplift these children, their dreams, and offer hope to a nation and a generation. Their journey will demonstrate the transformative power of chess in fostering greatness.

How You Can Help:

We humbly appeal to your generosity and belief in the power of heroes to transform communities. Your contribution, regardless of size, will provide crucial support to our Ugandan chess heroes. Donations will assist in covering expenses such as travel tickets, registration fees, the International Chess Federation (FIDE) fees, team uniforms, accommodation, and meals.

The Budget:

Team Black, consisting of 4 players and 1 captain, has their accommodation and meals graciously taken care of by the host. They only require support for their tickets, registration, team uniforms, and FIDE fees.

Teams Yellow & Red, consisting of 8 players, need tickets, accommodation and meals, registration, team uniforms, and FIDE fees. The entire team will stay at the designated hotel in Eindhoven for 7 nights.

Tickets are estimated at $1300 each, Visa fees at $80 each, registration at $110 each, and FIDE fees at $28 each. The team uniform kit is estimated at $100 per player. Accommodation and meals are priced at $770 per person.

Please note that one accompanying coach and one accompanying parent's expenses are covered by the parents themselves. However, your support is essential to cover the expenses of the participating players and an additional coach.

The total bill for the travel and tournament expenses of the team comes to approximately $28,400.
