"Mental health problems don't define who you are. They are something you experience". - Matt Haig

Hi, welcome, we are a group of college students at the University of North Texas called the Empathizers who are fundraising for The Mental Health Collaborative (MHC). Our group is passionate about bringing awareness about the growing mental health issues of students across the world. This issue is near and dear to our hearts, as we believe that mental health is super important and affects all parts of our daily lives.

About the Mental Health Collaborative Initiative

Abbie Rosenberg is the cofounder of Mental Health collaborative. She cofounded this non profit after 2017, when a patient who had moved out of state, sadly lost his battle with depression and anxiety and died by suicide. Mental Health Collaborative was sparked in his honor and in his memory as well as in memory of the many other people that suffer silently and have tragically lost their lives too early.

With over 30 years of experience as a therapist and psychopharmacologist, Abbie has witnessed the pervasive stigma, shame, and lack of education surrounding mental health challenges. We believe that through education and awareness, we can reduce stigma and foster open conversations about mental illness. Our mission is to build informed, resilient communities that improve mental health literacy across various communities.

Mental Health Statistics Among Students

Research shows that mental health issues are increasingly common among students:

Anxiety: 36% of students experience anxiety.
Depression: 30% report symptoms of depression.
Academic Impact: 22% of students say emotional or mental difficulties affected their academic performance for six or more days in a month.

Suicide is the second leading cause of death among youth aged 10-34, highlighting the severe consequences of untreated mental health issues. Alarmingly, 50% of all lifetime cases of mental illness begin by age 14, and 75% by age 24.

The Healthy Minds Study reveals critical insights into mental health trends among college students:

Depression: 41% have experienced depression, with 20% reporting severe depression.
Anxiety: 36% screened positive for anxiety, with 17% reporting severe symptoms.
Eating Disorders: 14% show signs of eating disorders.
Loneliness: 25% often feel isolated, with 36% feeling this way some of the time.
Suicidal Ideation: 14% reported suicidal thoughts in the past year, while 29% engaged in non-suicidal self-injury.
These statistics underscore the urgent need for mental health resources and intervention programs on campuses.

The above video was a call to action for a campaign launched 3 years ago by the Mental Health Collaborative. The efforts and goals of this campaign are ongoing as thousands of students and young adults struggle with mental health every year.
