Support Mom's 2nd Opinion for her Brain Cancer progression
Donation protected
Update 3/5/25: Despite one doctor's opinion, my mom wants to continue fighting against brain cancer. Please help us in getting her the second opinion she is hoping for. Her current insurance has denied an out of network second opinion, even though her current doctors have given up on treatment. We will be paying out-of-pocket for consultations with other Neuro-oncologists and need your support. We will update with more details as soon as we can. Love Maria, Karina and Beto ❤️
May 2024:
Hello, my mom is in need of immediate brain surgery to remove a fast growing cancerous tumor. Her first doctor did not want to operate on her and sent her home to await chemo and radiation, which she has even yet to start. In just a week and a half after her sudden cancer diagnosis, my mom's life is at risk. Her symptoms progressed and she can not use the left side of her body or walk unassisted.
We asked for a second opinion for a neurosurgeon and they took one look at my mom and her brain imaging and said to get to an Emergency Room immediately and that she needed immediate surgery to give her a fighting chance.
She is currently under UC San Diego care and her insurance is potentially looking to deny surgery at this hospital, despite it being an emergency and medically necessary, they want to transport her to less experienced surgeons at THEIR hospital of choice. This is not something we feel comfortable with and we are going to need all the financial support we can, if her insurance denies her this surgery with this highly skilled surgeon who is confident he can prolong my mom's life with his surgery. If denied, we will have to pay out of pocket and not move her to a different hospital.
As of now her surgery is scheduled for Monday May 6th.
Please pray she gets the care she deserves. My mom is only 66, a wonderful and strong woman, who cares for anyone in need. She goes as far as making home cooked meals to deliver to the homeless, she's retired from the Naval base in San Diego, where she helped many military families with their child care and education. She deserves better.
Do better American Healthcare system.
Love you so much mom!
