Animal Control was called out to a cat on the highway - several motorists had called it in so all 3 on duty officers headed to the scene. They found an adult cat, clearly badly injured and obviously scared out if it's mind. Traffic was stopped and officers gently corralled the cat and rushed it to our friends at Creek View Clinic.
This young adult was injured badly, two large holes in her back end and her tail was limp and crushed. She was rushed into surgery where the wound was flushed out, packed with antibiotics and left to drain. It was clear the tail would need to come off, but she'd been under anesthesia for so long, and there was so much infection, the decision was made to wake her up and see if she could recover from this initial surgery.
Then we got a Facebook message from one of the motorists who had stopped and tried to help the cat prior to Animal Control arriving. She wanted to check on the cat and see if anything could be done to help. We had named her Ursula and at this point, she was in desperate need of a foster home who could handle her wound care and give her a safe, quiet, peaceful place to recover. This kind hearted woman met us at the vet clinic to meet Ursula and talk to the vet about the care she would need at home - and it was no easy task keeping that gnarly wound clean and healthy and giving this sweet cat a place to heal but she did an amazing job.
Two weeks after her initial surgery, she was healing well but the tail was clearly dead and needed to be amputated. Back into the vet for another long arduous surgery. There was not very much good healthy tissue left to close up the hole left by the now absent tail but her vet did an amazing job and Ursula recovered beautifully AGAIN from another difficult surgery.
Ursula's foster mom is so grateful to have been able to help this amazing cat in her time of need, and had certainly considered adopting her after everything they had been through together but her residents pets are simply not a fan and she has decided it's best of Ursula finds a new home where she can truly shine and be the best cat she can be - Ursula does great with her cat and dog, but the feelings are simply not reciprocated!
So we come to you today with TWO asks - one, lets find this cat a new FURREVER HOME. She is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and has the rescue story of the year! Two, she racked up over $1500 in vet bills that were simply not in our budget. Our partner clinic extends an incredibly generous discount to the shelter pets who need treatment, but she had two expensive surgeries and nearly a week in intensive care and that adds up fast. Please donate if you can!
