Support us to build a playground in Sri Lanka

Hi! We are Mithra and Maren, living in the South of Sri Lanka on a small farm called Camp Coconut.
Raising our own children and interacting with families who have young kids in the area, we’ve recognized a growing need for a safe and engaging playground that caters to a variety of age groups. With this in mind, we believe Camp Coconut provides the perfect location for such a project.
We started the farm in 2020 and it became not only a home to us and our team, but also to a diverse group of animals, including chickens, ducks, guinea fowls, cows, three dogs, and a cat. In addition to our array of fruit trees, we grow a variety of vegetables. We also run a wood workshop where we upcycle wood scraps into furniture, both building and repairing items to minimize waste.
Our overarching vision is to become a truly sustainable farm. To achieve greater self-sufficiency, we’ve installed a biogas plant that provides us with cooking gas and solar panels to generate electricity. On a daily basis, we collect food waste from local markets, which is repurposed as animal feed and also used in the biogas plant, creating a closed-loop system that reduces waste and promotes sustainability.
Our long-term goal is for Camp Coconut to serve as a model for sustainable farming, and to inspire other young people to embrace farming as a career. We also aim to host educational programs and workshops on sustainable agriculture, traditional farming methods, and environmental conservation, with a special focus on educating the next generation about these important issues.
By adding a playground at Camp Coconut, we can create a space that attracts more young families and offers a safe, engaging environment for children to play, learn, and make new friends. This addition will help us further our goal of community involvement while also providing an essential resource for local families.
With the expertise of a skilled carpenter and a technical engineer, we plan to build a climbing station, a balance parkour, a water play area, swings suitable for different age groups, and several quiet reading and resting spots. These elements will combine to create a safe, inclusive, and inspiring space for children to enjoy the outdoors, explore and develop new skills.
