Support A US Veteran Injured In Ukraine
Donation protected
Brian Harlow, a loving father, husband, son and friend was catastrophically injured while providing support in Ukraine. A veteran of the US Army, Brian signed up to serve his country at just 17 years of age. He was enlisted for four years as a specialist during the Iraq war, deploying for an extended period.
Harlow now lives in Georgia with his 9-year-old son and newlywed wife.
After seeing the Russian aggression unfold Brian felt he couldn’t sit back and allow the attacks on civilians. As a father he was particularly upset by the mass kidnappings and separation of Ukrainian children from their families. When presented the opportunity to be boots on the ground in Ukraine assisting in humanitarian aid and training soldiers, Brian jumped at the chance.
While there, Brian stepped on a landmine/explosive causing severe injuries. It took nearly 7 hours to evacuate to the nearest hospital, resulting in the loss of his lower right limb (BKA). After just over 10 days in multiple medical facilities within Ukraine, Brian was air lifted to a hospital in a 3rd country. He is currently receiving outstanding medical care in a European facility and still has a long medical journey ahead. Unfortunately, his Doctor has informed him it may take 9-12 months before his primary leg wound heals adequately enough for his prosthetic fitting.
Brian’s wife Paige, immediately flew to his side in Ukraine, to help advocate for his medical decisions. His desire is for her to stay for the duration of treatment, so she’ll be knowledgeable of home care needs, provide moral support, and advocate for his wellbeing as he navigates this difficult journey.
Brian has explained his injury to his son and that he will be working hard to conquer his new lifestyle. However, as to not compound the family stress, he humbly requests to have his son visit and involved in the recovery process, enabling him to see his dad’s strides towards recovery. He hopes this will bring even the slightest peace of mind after returning home to continue his education.
Brian and his wife have a long road ahead, including unforeseen expenses both abroad and at home. They will need community support as they transition to their new “normal”.
An Amazon wish list will also soon be linked as their needs change.
Thank you for your consideration and kindness. Brian is always one to step up and care for others, we hope to show him he has an Army of love and support by his side.
