Support 'Vendetta' - Ranuli's Graduating Film Noir Short

Hello!

My name is Ranuli, I come from Sri Lanka, and I am in my final year of my Master's in Filmmaking at EICAR Paris. I have been a writer all my life, so storytelling has been a part of me and something so deeply valuable to me for a very long time! For most of my childhood and teenage years I was a published author of short stories and poetry, and now I have begun my journey as a storyteller through filmmaking!

'Vendetta' is my graduating short film, and the first short film of which I am the sole Writer and Director of. Set in the late-1940s and done in the style of Film Noir, with inspiration from films such as The Maltese Falcon, Sunset Boulevard, Elevator to the Gallows, Laura, and Double Indemnity. This is also the first period short film I have written, a script that took about 6 months from conception to final draft.

In ‘Vendetta’, I took the male-centred film noir and gave it a twist where women take the lead. Moving away from the usual film noir cliché of women being the femme fatale, characterized by a flirtatious and sensual nature, my Detective is a woman who is witty, uncompromising, and works a dangerous job, she has the power to take vengeance and justice into her own hands. ‘Vendetta’ is a film I truly enjoyed writing, and one I am excited to Direct as my graduating film. ‘Vendetta’ will be a showcase of my vision as a storyteller, and an homage to Film Noir and its legacy. As a student filmmaker, your support in making this film would mean so much to me! I came a long way to be a film student in Paris, with no experience in filmmaking, but a passion for writing and storytelling. Since then I have worked on many student films, two short film festivals (in the organizing team and as a student jury member) as well as Directed for the first time for a script I Co-wrote and a project on consent for the Cité Universitaire Paris. To now have the opportunity to make my own graduating film is an achievement I am most proud of and an experience I am most excited for, and I look forward to bringing ‘Vendetta’ to the screen with your support
