Support Verlene Henry's Service Dog Program for Veterans

Donation protected
I am Verlene Henry, a disabled U.S. Army Veteran, and I am seeking donations to total $50,000 to establish a service dog training program specifically designed for disabled veterans. As one of the first women to initiate this program, I am driven by my passion for helping fellow veterans cope with the challenges of daily life through the companionship of trained service dogs.

Background

According to the 2023 National Veteran Suicide Prevention Annual Report, veteran suicide rates have increased by 11.6% from 2020. On average, more than 17 veterans take their own lives each day. These alarming statistics highlight the urgent need for effective support and companionship for veterans struggling with mental health issues.

As a veteran who has personally faced the challenges of PTSD and emotional distress following a traumatic experience in the military, I understand the profound impact that animals can have on mental health. My journey has shown me that companionship and support from animals can be life-changing, providing the necessary coping skills to navigate daily life.

Project Objectives

The primary objectives of this program are:

1. Training Service Dogs: To train service dogs that can assist disabled veterans with their basic needs and provide emotional support.
2. Providing Companionship: To offer veterans a reliable companion that can help reduce feelings of isolation and depression.
3. Enhancing Coping Skills: To equip veterans with tools and skills to manage their mental health more effectively through the bond with their service dogs.

Collaboration with Master Dog Trainer

I will be working with a world-renowned master dog trainer for certification endorsement of a fully trained service companion. This partnership will ensure that the dogs are not only well-trained but also meet the highest standards of service animal requirements, providing veterans with the best support possible.

Funding Requirements

To successfully launch this program, I am seeking $50,000 to cover the following expenses:

1. Equipment and Supplies: Purchase of training equipment, dog food, grooming supplies, and veterinary care.
2. Facility Costs: Setting up a safe and comfortable environment for the dogs and veterans involved in the program.
3. Training Program Development: Developing a comprehensive training curriculum that focuses on the needs of disabled veterans.
4. Marketing and Outreach: Promoting the program to reach veterans in need of support.

With your support, I aim to create a sustainable program that not only trains service dogs but also fosters a community of healing and support for disabled veterans. This initiative will not only enhance the lives of veterans but could also contribute to reducing the tragic rates of veteran suicide.

Thank you for considering this proposal. I look forward to the opportunity to discuss how we can work together to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our nation's heroes.

Thank you so much!
