Sea to Summit Ultramarathon to Support Veterans
Donation protected
We’re Jake McCormack, Dean Forester, and Dean Harnett, three friends about to embark on one of the most grueling challenges of our lives: the UK Sea to Summit Ultramarathon Trilogy. This isn’t just any race. It’s a multi-day, ultra-endurance event that will test our limits as we cover 90 miles of some of the UK’s toughest terrain, from the rugged coastline to the highest peaks.
UK Sea to Summit is a 3 month event running from the coast to the top of the 3 highest peaks in England, Wales, and Scotland.
The first event will be Scafell Pike on 31st August, the next will be Ben Nevis on 28th September, and finally Yr wyddfa (Snowdon) on 12th October, with each race being around 30 miles long.
All three of us are novice runners who have been training hard for the past six months, as we have never competed in any kind of race before. Together, we’re pushing ourselves to new heights—literally and figuratively—to raise money for a cause that is very close to out hearts, with Dean Harnett himself having previously served in the RAF.
Why We’re Running
We’re running to support Mode Rehabilitation, a mental health charity in Stockport that provides essential support and recovery programs to military veterans and service leavers.
Mental health is an urgent issue for military personnel, many of whom face long delays in receiving the care they desperately need. Shockingly, nearly a quarter of mental health patients (23%) wait more than 12 weeks to start treatment. Help for Heroes has reported cases of veterans waiting up to 12-18 months for support. This is unacceptable, and we want to do something about it.
How Your Donation Will Make a Difference
For just £60, Mode Rehabilitation can offer a veteran fast access to crucial mental health support. This includes:
- Same-day referral via a phone call
- Triage within 3 days, including a needs assessment, risk assessment, and care plan
- First in-person therapy session within 5-7 days
Our goal is to raise £3,000—enough to provide 50 veterans and service leavers with this life-saving initial care. Every donation, no matter how small, will help us get closer to that goal and make a real difference in the lives of those who have served our country.
Join Us on Our Journey
We know this challenge won’t be easy. But with your support, we’re determined to make every mile count. We’ll be sharing updates on our training, the race itself, and the impact your donations are making.
Thank you for helping us give back to those who have given so much. Let’s make sure that no veteran has to wait to get the mental health support they deserve.
