Support Vicki Newman's Fight Against Cancer

Dear Friends, Clients, and Family,

I am reaching out to you with a heavy and humble heart to share news that has turned my life upside down.

On January 4th, 2024 I was diagnosed with Stage III Rectal Cancer. I have been supported by amazing doctors and medical staff at the Unity Point Stoddard Cancer Center. With no time to spare, I started a 96-hour chemo drip therapy, going in every morning at 7:00 a.m. for onsite radiation treatment and carrying my Computerized Ambulatory Delivery Device, a “fanny pack” that contains the chemotherapy infusion which is pushed into my bloodstream throughout the day.

I have been on this treatment now for 1 week and the radiation will continue for 6 weeks and the chemo for 10 weeks (as I know of thus far). Until today I have been able to continue providing service to my clients at Sunny’s Salon. However, my body continues to weaken more each day and I have come to terms with the fact that I need to follow my doctor’s orders and take care of my body. I was told that the effects of treatment will significantly worsen in the upcoming weeks, and I know I will no longer be able to continue servicing my clients.

As many of you know, I lost my husband Archie in 2019 after suffering from a heart attack. During the last 38 years, my hair styling business has allowed me to meet many wonderful people and make a good living. However, as many independent small business owners know, it is hard to generate enough savings for situations like this.

My medical insurance deductible for treatment is $14,000 which I do not have. Additionally, I will not be able to work for at least two to three months (I’m hopeful to recover by then).

I have been on my own and independent since I was 18 years old,  and have spent 38 years in the hair styling business.

Unfortunately, without being able to work (currently I work 6 days a week), I will not be able to sustain myself and cover my medical, living, and housing expenses. I now find myself out of options and I’m scared. I have never really ever asked anyone  for anything. So I have decided to do one of the hardest things I have done in my life… ask for help. The funds I receive will go towards covering these expenses during my treatment and recovery.

I’m also afraid of not having clients when I recover and return to work… please do not give up on me and return when I get back to work. If you need references for a stylist during this time, feel free to call me or text me and I can provide you with contacts. My co-workers at Sunny Salon are all supporting me and my clients while I am out.
I have already received so much help from my co- workers whom I love terribly and my clients who I could not do any of this without them, they are my rock! Of course my beautiful family I am forever great full for you.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart in advance for your support during this challenging time. Keep in touch, it will be helpful for me to stay connected as I am able. I am strong and I know I can beat this and look forward to seeing all my clients, friends, and family again soon. Of course all prayers,  hugs and love would be appreciated as well

With so much love and gratitude❤️
