Support Violet's trip to aid Zanzibar in 2025

Hello!

My name is Violet, and I am a student at Gillingham School in year 10. I am very lucky to have been selected to be apart of a volunteering trip to Zanzibar in Tanzania, in July 2025. My school is a joint partnership with African Adventures which is dedicated to improving the lives of young people in Africa.

African adventures is able to work with six schools located near stone town in Zanzibar. Their purpose is to benefit and help the lives of those who are less fortunate and unprivileged than us, and help making there school life a whole lot more enjoyable. We will be able to help support in classrooms by helping with teaching and providing entertainment. When on the trip, volunteers will be able to help and get involved with Teaching and Multi-sports, or Building and Renovation. The classrooms at the partnered schools are under-resourced and classes are very overcrowded, making a difficult learning environment. So by choosing a teaching assistant role volunteers will be able to help teachers deliver sports lessons (in the morning and late afternoons) and to help support small groups of students with their work. However if volunteers choose building and renovation, they will be able to get stuck in with helping renovate and construct classrooms, kitchens, toilets, offices, assembly halls. The work is carried out by a local builder, and it’s physical work which can be challenging, but it is great if you want to feel accomplished over your work, as it helps give students an amazing chance of learning.

Having this opportunity as a school trip is something I am very grateful for, as it has been an aspiration of mine to help people who really need it and give them the childhood and education they really deserve. Leading up to the trip I will prove my dedication and determination by doing various activities such as bake sales, sponsored walks, and many other activities. I am beyond excited for this trip and I hope to improve the lives of those who need it. Any donations to the cost of the trip will be immensely appreciated, thank-you so much for your time!
