Support Volcano Kimchi’s New Home
Donation protected
Dear friends, family, and fans of Volcano Kimchi,
We are so grateful to all of you for supporting us and helping us to grow from where we started all the way back in 2014 to today. Thank you for standing by us. It has been an incredible journey.
We’re turning to you now to ask for your help as we begin a new chapter. In 2023, Volcano Kimchi moved operations twice and had three homes in total, something we hadn’t anticipated at the start of the year. Fortunately, in mid-November we found a new space that we are excited to call our long-term home.
And boy, do we have plans, including launching a Friday pick-up service for kimchi orders, daily meal kits and eventually a dedicated retail section where we hope to highlight some new and exciting products (along with the traditional lineup of fermented goodies you’ve come to know and love).
As we look forward, we’re reaching out to you for help.
How your donation will make a difference
Our target goal of $10,000 will help offset the cost of purchasing a vegetable chopping machine. For the past 9 years, every ingredient in a jar of Volcano Kimchi has been chopped BY HAND! Whether cabbage, bok choy, jicama… you name it, we’ve chopped it! And while we take pride in the personal touch we add to our kimchi (quite literally), we realize the need to find production efficiencies for our team and process, especially now with plans to expand our retail efforts. Don’t worry… you won’t notice the difference. But we will. Having this machine will help free up much needed time and energy that we want to devote to these new endeavors. We hope you’re as excited as we are and we want to express our profound gratitude once again for your continued support.
Our story
I was born in South Korea, and grew up in a Buddhist monastery where every meal included a variety of home-grown and locally-harvested vegetables, served in an array of vibrant and nutritious ways. Some of my earliest memories are of sneaking away to steal bites of kimchi from the assortment of crock pots that lined the temple walls. I came to San Francisco in 2001, and while San Francisco is now home, the memory of those flavors is as fresh today as it was then. This is the guiding inspiration I use in preparing each batch for Volcano Kimchi.
