Support Walt Nichols' Liver Transplant Recovery
Donation protected
As many of you know, my good friend and college roommate from Notre Dame, Walt Nichols, has a very rare liver disease called Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC). He has been battling this disease with many ups and downs over the last 7 years. It has no known cause, and the only possible cure/extension of life is by a liver transplant. Walt was officially put on the transplant list in May after a complication from a medical procedure that left him in the hospital for a few weeks. Thankfully, on December 2nd, due the generosity of a living donor, Walt will receive a liver transplant, and begin the healing process on what has been a very long battle with PSC.
The road to recovery starts on December 2nd and will take time. He will spend at least one week in the hospital post-transplant and it takes up to eight weeks for the new liver to regenerate. Recovery will take months. During this time Walt will be solely focused on his health while work will have to take a back seat. Being an entrepreneur has been a very fulfilling career path for Walt, but not being able to fully run his business during this time will have an impact. Walt and his loving wife, Jill, have four beautiful children: Landon (18), Logan (16), Atalie (11) and Brylee (9). You can only imagine the tremendous amount of stress their family is under.
The expenses associated with this process are substantial. Oftentimes in this journey people have asked how they can help. As Walt's friend, I have set this up to give people an avenue to help alleviate some of the financial burden so they can focus on healing. Any donation, big or small, is so greatly appreciated and will go directly to the Nichols family to help with both the medical and day-to-day expenses while Walt recovers.
Above all, we ask for your prayers. Prayers for his spirit to remain strong and positive, prayers for a full recovery, prayers for the donor, and prayers for Walt and his entire family as they navigate this challenging, yet hopeful time.
