Support Walter through his stage 4 cancer fight

Donation protected
Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers, We are reaching out to you today on behalf of Our dad and family pillar Walter Quartey, a benevolent and devoted father of four, and a loving grandfather.

Our dad has been bravely battling Terminal Colon Cancer for about 2 years now, where he has undergone surgery, he now has a stoma bag and has completed rounds of chemo.

The NHS have now given up on him, with the view that the last available chemo drug has a 0.03% chance of working due to his body’s inability to absorb efficiently. They have therefore placed him on Palliative Care, and the Doctors have given him 6 months to live.

As his cancer has spread into his peritoneum, we are finding that his digestive system keeps getting blocked hence the stoma output is partially sealed, which has meant he is now on a liquid diet. Which means he has drastically lost weight (from 95kg to 55kg) and still deteriorating.

Through all of this, my dad refuses to give up, and we are rallying to support him with his fight to beat the odds. We are raising funds to take him into Private Health Care.

The NHS consultants are not willing to offer surgical options but we have identified and are in contact with Consultants at the Royal Marsden Hospital where there are private doctors who will devote time and their expertise to help him survive this. This is where we need your help to raise the money we need.

We would appreciate your help and support to help my dad, a granddad, brother and community figure who inspires both the young and old survive this. No donation is too small.

The journey so far:

This all started on July 19, 2022, my father received a diagnosis of colon cancer. Initially, medical professionals indicated early detection, prompting surgical intervention to remove the primary tumour, followed by chemotherapy. However, post-surgery assessments revealed an advanced stage, specifically stage 3C, characterised by an aggressive disease manifestation.

Despite efforts to remove the majority of the cancer, subsequent treatments, including chemotherapy sessions and alternative other remedies, alongside dietary adjustments aimed at alkalinity, did not yield desired outcomes. Over the ensuing two years, my father experienced recurrent hospital admissions for minor complications. With an operation to give him a bypass (Stoma Bag) in August 2023 when the cancer came back aggressively permanently blocking his colon.

On December 23, 2023, my father's condition worsened, marked by further cancer metastasis, which was disheartening given our hopes for chemotherapy efficacy, particularly nearing the holiday season. He remained hospitalized for approximately a week. The situation deteriorated further on January 1, 2024, when he developed sepsis, necessitating immediate transfer to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

My mother, aunt, sister, and I hurried to his bedside, witnessing his distress and disorientation. Following medical advice, my father underwent induced coma to alleviate physiological strain. Prepared for the worst, we notified close relatives to bid farewell, grappling with profound grief.

Despite the emotional turmoil, we maintained optimism and sought divine intervention through prayer. Miraculously, his condition gradually improved, emerging from the coma on January 4, albeit emotionally and cognitively challenged. Nevertheless, his resilience and unwavering faith spurred his determination to recover. Subsequent hospitalization in a less intensive setting witnessed numerous complications, exacerbated by lapses in care quality. Such lapses, coupled with deficient communication and empathy, irrespective of staffing constraints, were deeply concerning.

We intend to address these issues comprehensively in a forthcoming video. Regrettably, medical updates revealed disease progression to stage 4, with treatment options exhausted. Nevertheless, buoyed by faith, my father persists in his fight, embodying unwavering resolve and familial devotion. I encourage you to extend support and encouragement to him, including through his TikTok platform, @walterquartey, where he documents his journey towards recovery from this relentless illness.

 Thanks Alvina Quartey.
