Support Wendy's Journey to Diagnosis and Treatment

Hi, everyone. My name is April Mustian, and I have created this GoFundMe on behalf of my 1st cousin, Wendy Beam Moody, as she continues to endure a yet-to-be diagnosed medical illness that has resulted in 40% vision loss in her left and right eyes, ongoing severe migraine-like headaches, multiple episodes of losing consciousness, momentary losses of mobility, and countless visits to the ER and specialist appointments. On this journey, Wendy has had to deal with the emotional toll of being told she might have cancer or MS only to go through further testing that has brought inconclusive results

Recently, Wendy's local specialist proposed a treatment plan that was denied by her insurance plan. As a result, the specialist referred Wendy to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota for further testing and treatment. Her insurance company has approved travel reimbursement of up to $5000; however, this alone is a large upfront financial burden on Wendy and her family. Additionally, at this time, there is so much unknown about her length of stay, the cost of testing and treatment, or how many trips this level of care might require.

To compound an already challenging journey emotionally and financially, Wendy's symptoms have required her to go on short-term disability and remain out of work since February. This means she is bringing home only 60% of her usual pay. When or if she will be able to return to work is unknown as this time; this income loss alone has been difficult on the Moody family.

Thus, this GoFundMe is to support Wendy and her family as she continues to navigate this ever-evolving and physically and emotionally challenging journey towards a medical diagnosis, treatment, and better quality of life. It would greatly ease the family's stress if their loved ones near and far could be so generous as to provide whatever amount of financial support they can at this time.

The initial goal of $10,000 will support the financial costs of Wendy's current treatments (IV infusions), close the gap of lost income, and help with airfare, lodging, and food for the first trip to Mayo Clinic for Wendy and her support system. This goal my increase once more is learned about financial costs of ongoing treatment and support needs.
