Support with Caregiving for Luis

Hi everyone! For those who don't know us, we are Lexie & Luis. We have been married for nine years and have been together for almost 15 years! Luis suffered severe traumatic brain injury two months after we got married. I, Lexie, am Luis's full-time caregiver, full-time student at UCSC, homeschool parent to our daughter Clover, and economically responsible for our family.

Last year, I was accepted to my dream school, UCSC. Because of the pandemic, I was able to take online classes, allowing me to care for Luis while attending college.

Unfortunately, classes will no longer be offered online, which means that I will need to commute to college five days a week.

Even though I am American, Luis does not have a US citizenship.

I want to continue my college education, striving for a better income to provide Luis with everything he needs. Additionally, I want to prove I will be able to sustain Luis and his needs in the US (allowing him to get his US citizenship & experience an accessible life).

Because Luis is disabled, it is more complicated for him to obtain his citizenship. Usually, cases like Luis's are denied, for they are considered a "potential economic burden."

Being responsible for so much has affected my health. Recently, the neurologist told me that I can no longer do everything I am doing anymore. It will not only keep affecting my health but also puts my life at risk.

After much thought and consideration, we created a GoFundMe to go toward Luis's caregiving.

We have gotten to a point where it has become difficult for me to finance everything independently.

I want to continue supporting Luis in everything I can. However, I now understand I cannot do everything on my own.

Luis does not receive any support or disability in Mexico. He also has no health insurance. Therapies, medications, and doctor visits are always out of pocket.

We want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for always being such a loving and supportive community. Even though I have been doing everything on my own doesn't mean I'm alone. We love and appreciate each one of you.
