Support WNC Fly Shops After Helene
Donation protected
Southern Culture on the Fly is raising money to help relieve fly shops in the Rosman/Asheville area. On top of all the structural damage and mess left by the historic floods in Western North Carolina these last days, thousands of dollars in lost income will make recovering difficult for our friends who've been affected. We will be distributing the funds we raise to fly shops like Headwaters Outfitters and their employees to help soften some of the expenses they will incur as they clean up and rebuild after this truly catastrophic storm. If you can donate, please give what you can. If you can't, prayers are always appreciated. We know the SCOF community is good for it.
We are an online magazine and community of writers that care about the sport of fly fishing, and the people who love it. Our staff is spread throughout the southeast, including Rosman, NC.
Funds will be sent to fly shop owners to spend on things like restoring their buildings, paying employees, and supporting their families and communities. Many of these communities will be without power, cell service, or water for the next couple weeks, and we think cash is the best way to support their needs right now given that so much infrastructure is too damaged to deliver goods or transport volunteers.
Hopefully this money will help grease a chainsaw, feed a baby, or hang new drywall at a shop in the mecca of southern fly fishing. Please give what you can.
To be clear, we are receiving the funds, and allocating them to the owners of fly shops affected by Helene.
Jess Whitmire at Headwaters Outfitters will be the primary beneficiary, but funds will also be sent to Kevin Howell at Davidson River Outfitters, and others. If you are a full time guide with an outfitter, or owner of another outfitter and you need relief, please contact us directly through gofundme.
We're planning to send Jess at least 5k this weekend to help her staff with their bills for the month, and buy whatever supplies they need to restore their holler.
