My name is Heather and I am the mother to 2 amazing boys. My youngest, Xander, is 14 and has already had a rough road behind him. He was born 5 weeks early and spent the first 13 days of his life in the NICU. Then at age 4, he was diagnosed with autism, ODD, and developmental delays. He has worked very hard to become the young man he is today. Unfortunately, he has been hit with another setback. Yesterday, May 21, 2024, he was diagnosed with B-cell ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia).
He has been handling everything like a trooper, despite his sensory issues that are making even the little things more complicated for him. Yesterday alone, he had a bone marrow biopsy, lumbar puncture, PICC line put in, and a dose of chemo directly to his spine. Today, all he has done is sleep.
The next few months, he will be going through an aggressive treatment that will have us traveling 3 hours round trip for the weekly treatments. Some treatments will require us to stay the night out of town.
I will make sure we do whatever it takes to make sure my boy gets the treatments he needs, but I'm not going to lie and say that I'm prepared for the financial burden.
Several people have asked how they might be able to help us, so at their encouragement, I'm setting this GoFundMe up. Any funds donated will go to transportation expenses, unexpected medical supplies needed, assist with list wages so we can keep our bills up to date without worrying about chosing between work and his treatment, and to help make Xander as comfortable through this process as we can. There are some minor accommodations we will need to make in our house to help Xander stay safe and comfortable, and funds will be used to help with that.
I want to thank everyone in advance. This is all very overwhelming but Xander is a fighter and his care team is amazing.
