Support Xin’s Journey to the World University Games

Hi, I'm Xin! I'm a badminton player, an undergraduate student at UC Davis, a badminton coach of six years, and a daughter. I’m sharing my story because this year, I’m incredibly honored to have qualified for the World University Championships in Germany—a dream that represents years of hard work and perseverance. But competing internationally comes with a heavy financial burden, and as someone who is still supporting her family, I’m reaching out for help.

In 2013, my single father and I immigrated to the United States. He left behind his country, his language, and everything familiar to seek better opportunities for us. With a language barrier and limited resources, he could only take on physically demanding labor jobs. After barely covering our living expenses, he poured everything he had left into supporting my dream—funding my costly training, tournament fees, and travel costs month after month.

Everything changed during the COVID-19 pandemic when my father suffered a hemorrhagic stroke that left the right side of his body paralyzed. Although he made progress through rehabilitation, he could no longer return to work.

As a high-schooler during that time, I became the sole breadwinner of the family, covering rent, utilities, and my own training expenses. While attending school full-time, I worked three part-time jobs: an online intern, a badminton coach, and a receptionist. Despite these responsibilities, I continued to train and compete in tournaments to pursue my passion.

This lifestyle has followed me throughout college. Each week, I take nearly three hours round-trip from UC Davis to the Bay Area to train, coach, and care for my father. I have competed in numerous tournaments and have earned titles in intercollegiate tournaments. Pursuing this dream has never been easy, but these challenges have only made me cherish the opportunity to do what I love.

I am fortunate to have the opportunity to represent the United States. This opportunity means the world to me, and your support would bring me one step closer to my dream and allow me to compete on a global stage.

Thank you for believing in me—your support fuels my dream and journey.
