Stand by Yannick in His Time of Need

Support Yannick’s Road to Recovery
On February 18, 2025, Yannick returned home after a long day of work and deep reflection—it marked the one-year anniversary of his father’s passing. But nothing could have prepared him for what would happen next.

That evening, he fell from his wheelchair, landing violently on his right knee. Though he immediately knew something was wrong, his spinal cord injury (sustained in 2003) prevents him from feeling or moving his legs. At the hospital, doctors confirmed the worst: a Stage 4 tibia fracture and compartment syndrome—a serious condition that can cause permanent damage to muscles, nerves, and blood vessels.

Now, Yannick faces one of the toughest challenges of his life. His right leg must remain completely immobilized in a rigid brace, making it incredibly difficult for him to use his wheelchair or perform basic daily movements—including transferring in and out of bed. For someone who has spent years overcoming obstacles with resilience, even Yannick admits this is his hardest battle yet.

The Harsh Reality of the Healthcare System
Yannick’s journey—like that of so many people with disabilities—is one of resilience, perseverance, and overcoming challenges that most of us could never imagine.

For many individuals with spinal cord injuries, Medicaid is the only option for medical coverage. While it provides essential healthcare, it also comes with severe limitations—including strict income caps that hinder career growth and financial independence. Yannick, however, defied the odds by securing private insurance through his employer, a rare achievement for full-time wheelchair users.

But even with private insurance, the reality is devastating: the critical care he needs such as intensive physical therapy and home health assistance—is NOT FULLY covered by private healthcare. There are hidden caps, limitations and surpluses that could greatly hinder Yannick's rehab process, leaving him vulnerable to a string of complications.

These are not luxuries—they are fundamental to his recovery and independence. Without them, he faces long-term complications that could prevent him from returning to work and the life he has fought so hard to build. There is a long journey of recovery ahead and he will need all the support to get back on track.

Some of you may have read his December 2024 Op-Ed in The New York Times, where he exposed the deep structural failures of the healthcare system. Now, in an ironic and heartbreaking twist, he finds himself battling that very system—fighting for the basic services he needs to heal.

Who Yannick Is to Us
Yannick is more than a survivor—he is a pillar of strength, an advocate, and an inspiration. He is a devoted son, brother, uncle, husband, puppy dad, and dear friend to so many. He has uplifted countless people, both within the disability community and beyond, showing what is possible with perseverance and determination. He has dedicated his life to helping others—now, he needs us.

How You Can Make a Difference
We are asking for your support to help Yannick through this difficult time. Any contribution—no matter how small—will go directly toward his medical expenses, in-home care, and the physical therapy he desperately needs to heal and regain his independence.

Your generosity will make it possible for Yannick to return to work, continue his mission of inspiring others, and reclaim the life he has fought so hard to build.

Thank you for your kindness, love, and support. ❤️
