Support young family's new house dry rot nightmare
Donation protected
We have just bought our first house. Thought we did everything that a new buyer should, had a survey, discussed any issues with the house with the sellers.
2 weeks after moving in we notice a growth in our dining area and contacted a local builder to come identify. Turns out it is dry rot. We hoped it was just a small job that our limited savings could cover. The more the builders found the more stark our reality became. The 'small' effected area has now encompassed the entire house, including the roof, which now needs to be removed. We are now 5 people living in 3 rooms within a half a house, no kitchen, no bathroom and no heating. We do not have the funds to rebuild the house once all the rot has been uncovered and treated. We have contacted a solicitor who has basically said there is nothing we can do. Our home insurers do not cover dry rot. We are doing this GoFundMe as we do not know what else to do. We have set a limit of £30k, but as the survey work is still ongoing, we do not know if that would be enough, dependent on how much more is uncovered. Thank you for considering our cause.
Infestation to roof area - awaiting scaffolding, still in the process of mapping the infestation.
So far half the kitchen, upstairs bedroom, bathroom, 2nd upstairs bedroom (parting wall to be removed - between bathroom and 2nd bedroom - as withing meter of "last sign of rot". House "getting smaller" by the hour.
