Help Young Hawaii Dancers Travel to India

Welcome to Rasa Varshini, our School of Dance and Devotional Arts.

I have had the privilege of teaching Bharatanatyam and Rajasthani, Vraj and Garba Folk Dances to these girls from the Big Island of Hawaii for the past 6 years or so. They have been dancing with other teachers since they were very little and have blossomed into beautiful young women who are very artistic and devotional, with big hearts.

It has inspired me to make our school officially known to the world and support them in their growth even further as dancers, aspiring artists and devotees.

Now that they have come more of age, I have a strong desire for them to experience Indian Classical and Folk dance from its roots and take them on a trip to India this winter. This is something I have experienced myself in my dance career and training and it has been so enriching. Going to India and meeting world class artists, watching them, learning from them, and being surrounded by the rich artistic and spiritual environment is something you simply cannot experience anywhere else.

My plan is to have a 3 week trip to India with these 7 girls along with parents and chaperons. It will begin in Vrindavan, where they will perform at temples, sing kirtan, visit the holy places, and assist in community service (seva).

Then we will make our way to Rajasthan where they will learn folk dance from the Kalbeliya snake charmer community and learn from the top Nagada drummer in the world.

Our trip will conclude in the South, in Chennai. There we will attend the world famous dance and music festival and watch the best Bharatanatyam dancers and other classical artists. We will get much needed costumes there, take workshops from masters of dance and have darshan at the temple of Sri Balaji in Tirupati.

I truly believe it is so important to invest in our children. All the costs will go towards our dancers' flight travel, accommodations, transportation within India and hopefully some new costumes.
