Support Your Local Youth Pastor

In light of recent financial constraints due to the Coronavirus, Grace Community Church's Youth Pastor, Derek Gillespie, was just let go. This news was devastating for all of us to hear this morning and our entire youth group is looking for ways to help. It has been such a blessing to me to have been with Derek since I was in 6th grade, just entering into the youth program until now before I leave to go to college, so I took it upon myself, as a leader in the youth group, to create this GoFundMe to help raise money for the Gillespie family to pay their rent, utilities, bills, put food on the table, support their two wonderful young children, and try to live a somewhat normal life in this new twisted and scary world we're living in.
Derek has been like a second father to so many of the students involved in Ignite Student Ministries (our youth group) and realizing we may soon have to live in a world where we can't see him every week anymore is very very hard for a lot of us to accept. Derek has not only been a mentor, friend, and father figure to all of us but more importantly has led hundreds of students to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior, granting all of these students salvation. Derek represents the light of Jesus every single day and by example and through his teaching, he has helped each of us set a bright path for ourselves and guide us to always do the right thing. . No list could do justice to the impact that Derek has made in our community, but just to give everyone reading an idea of what Derek has done for all of us, here are some things: host Youth Group every Wednesday, host Life Groups every Sunday night, host Bible Study every Sunday morning, train a Youth Worship Team, take us to Garden City Beach Camp every summer, organizing a Mission Trip with Mission Serve every summer, organizing Mission Trip with the Seniors to Jamaica every summer, hosting events all summer long to keep us connected even when we're not in school, coming to our schools during the school year and speaking/ supporting us in clubs like Fellowship of Christian Athletes and First Priority, and not to mention the crucial role he plays in the church's Technical and Worship Teams. As you can see, Derek has poured his heart and soul into Youth Ministry and has made it his personal mission to lead as many students to Jesus as he possibly can, while creating a little family within our church at the same time. He even has made it our own tradition to throw up the I love you sign language symbol whenever we see each other (as pictured above)! The least we can do to give back is by donating to this campaign and sharing it with everyone we know.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read, share, and consider donating. Every single donation counts.
Please send a private message to Rose Walters if you would prefer to set up a direct donation to the Gillespie family.
